Master Journey #01

Bismillah...

Since UG I was so determine to continue my studies. The only reason was that I wanted to prove that I actually have brains too. Back in the days where you are not as good as others put my confidence level way below my tapak kaki. But now, the "why" changed and it became a must for me to be relevant in the industry.

Anyway, God knows best, He let me work for sometime before the urge of continuing the dream struck back. The delay is mostly influenced by the socioeconomic status. I will discuss this in a separate post, Insyaallah.

Three years back, I decided to continue my studies at the Master level. A simple minded me, thinking of continuing at my previous uni is much easier due to some reasons. Maybe because I am already familiar with the system. I also know my lecturers there, so easier. My sister is about to finish her degree there, so meanwhile she is in her final year, she can be my "uni friend" before I get to know one...etc. Without thinking much, I applied and waited for the result.

...waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

On the week that I was suppose to get the result, I checked the online system saying that my application is still processing. I called to ask on the status, also still pending. So, I decided to go to the office to get clarification. I bukan tak sabar, tapi the class is about to start the next week, I did not get my result yet (still processing, they say). FYI, as long as a candidate fulfilled the requirement of continuing the Master, the process should not take much time. This is what I have in mind, previously.

I was at the office for at least two days (travelling back and forth Melaka-KL) just to know the result. Once the result was out (which is successful), it is already in the middle of Week 1 (Tuesday/Wednesday), new semester. I am quite pissed as the last day of the week before the semester starts (Jumaat), I went to the office in the morning (about 11.40) to get the confirmation, the officer dengan slumbernya lock the main door and he boldly said, "Jumaat prayer". I was speechless.

Wey, kau solat Jumaat ikut negara mana pukul 11.40???

I can only attend the class on weekend, so, on Friday (Week 1), I went there to register as Master students. Putting all the bad experience behind me, I go back and forth to settle the registration. STAD, Finance, IPS...etc. Last step is the subject registration. I find out that somehow I could not register the subject as it offers on weekdays. So, the best suggestion is to take leave of absence (cuti untuk sem ini, next sem try pulak add subjek).

I was like, serious laaaa....

I pause for a while and take sometime to talk to my friend, Yan (now already Dr Yan) who apparently doing her PHD here too. So, talking to her, clam me down a bit. After some time (about a week or so), I decided to withdraw from taking the course, hence quit my Master programme there. The programme clearly doesn't suit me, especially it is on weekdays (either morning or afternoon). Furthermore, I cannot waste money by travelling every week to KL on this. It is a big NO. Gaji ciput habis kat bayar tol dengan minyak apa hal? Aku bukan kerja kat kilang cetak duit la...halah halahhh!

I was quite traumatized to register for master programme again and decided to take a break from it until I can find way to be transferred to KL/Selangor branch so that it is easier to go to master class.

to be continued...

Moral of the story:

  1. Do a thorough research on whatever you want to do.
  2. List all the pros and cons. Make sure it does not ruin your schedule (esp working schedule).
  3. If it involves money, calculate your monthly expenditure and create a budget sheet. Make sure you can survive!
  4. Once you are satisfied, make up your mind.
  5. Then only, JUST DO IT!

Till next time.
